Life is full of inconveniences
But you know what I do before I walk out the front door everyday?
I tell myself: “I will inconvenience someone just like someone will inconvenience me and that’s okay”
It helps me be less in my go-go-go mindset while out in public. It reminds me that I’m not the only one on this planet with places to be.
Simply by existing, we will naturally be an inconvenience to “the other” so long as there exists another. This even happens with people we get along with just fine from time to time.
I was waiting in line at Walgreens. The cashier and the customer took an extra 15-25 seconds after the transaction to joke about something. The cashier looked over at me, seemingly to see if I was being irritated by the extra wait, but I smiled and she smiled back.
I figured: “perhaps the old customer needed a quick social interaction to brighten her day, what’s the harm? I hope she has a good day”
I stopped seeing cars on the road and began seeing people driving cars. People who are just like me and totally different from me at the same time.
