I try not to lie to myself, and that also means not lying to myself about the bad things.
We tend to think that positivity is some kind of a sham but negativity can be too. Don't delude yourself, and that also means recognizing when your self-esteem is bordering on self-sabotage.
I think that leads to a... if not optimistic, then genuinely upbeat view of things.
