I was taught to bring them to boil then turn to simmer 5 minutes, Remove the pot from heat but let them sit in the hot water 10 more minutes then ice bath them to stop cooking.

Some people swear by baking them but I've never tried.

put them in a pan of cold water until it boils turn off the heat and cover the pan. in 15 minutes you will have perfectly cooked hard boiled eggs.

8 to 9 minutes.
once water is at rolling boil take eggs off heat and let stand:
3 minutes for soft boiled
6 minutes for medium boiled
12 minutes for hard boiled
3 minutes for soft boiled
6 minutes for medium boiled

Only three minutes, then let them sit in the water for two more, then remove them. In four more minutes they're hard but not overcooked.
