My ex reached out on my birthday

I haven’t spoken to him in over 1 year and he basically told me happy birthday and explained why he couldn’t be with me. Why would he reach out to me on my birthday just to explain to me why he didn’t want to be with me 🙃

He's trying to get back into your life and using your birthday as the stepping stone to re-start the relationship. Remember an ex is an ex for a reason and should always stay an ex forevermore.
