I don't agree. I am at my happiest when I'm focused on being of service to others than dwelling on myself & my own feelings.

@SamInAZ Well, that is a good thing, but what happens when people no longer need you?

@Lostpoet Then I guess it's time to retire.
Lostpoet · M
@SamInAZ Will you know what makes you happy when you retire?
SamInAZ · 41-45, M
@Lostpoet I would volunteer. I am one of those "work until I die" people.
Lostpoet · M
@SamInAZ I want to be like that, but I don't know how.

@Lostpoet set expectations for yourself & never shirk on them. Start small, don't overwhelm yourself. You want to develop a stronger work ethic(not calling you lazy, just saying)? Make yourself go a step further at work, pick up new responsibilities. It builds character & you learn things about yourself along the way, your strengths & weaknesses, etc.

@SamInAZ I had former coworkers messing with me so I quit my last job. I've been homeless now for a while. I guess I could volunteer at the homeless shelter, but I don't know if they let you do that if you are staying there.

@Lostpoet Why wouldn't they? You should take a shot @ asking if you can. Build up a good reputation & you very likely might winde up getting a job out of it. Don't give up on yourself. Stay positive.
@SamInAZ The quote does not profess dwelling upon yourself, though. It really only expresses understanding and accepting yourself.

@thewindupbirdchronicles Maybe I misinterpreted it. It happens.
@SamInAZ I can see how one may go that direction in response, but it's not my reading of the quote.
