Social Media Addiction

I have to write about this, I just do. I'm not the type of person who has what could be called, for lack of a better term, an "addictive personality". I've never taken drugs, never smoked a cigarette, and can safely drink alcohol without it leading to a dependence on the stuff, but when it comes to the internet and social media...

Oh boy. It's why I'm here in the first place, why I'm here at all. I never thought that I would get sucked in, because I don't have a 'Twitter' account, am not on 'Facebook', and never use 'TikTok'. There was, however, a site that I became hooked on, called 'GirlsAskGuys'. It's not the best site, but it has enough colour and flash to attract someone's attention. I was on there for about three years altogether. I closed down a couple of accounts, but then reopened others later on, because I actually missed the site! That's the first sign of addiction; not being able to let go and making excuses for it.

Now I'm here. Why? I don't need to be. I could do other things with my time. It's now spring, and the weather is getting warm again, so I shouldn't be indoors anyway. And sometimes I'll say the most stupid things in DM's to people. Ugh! I'm going to have to break this habit, one way or another, because one day it will get me into a whole heap of trouble.

From what you described I can perceive addiction, but mild, not so harmful type. Say, more like a coffee habit, not like tobacco.
There are a few signs by which an addiction can he recognised , like
Is there a loss of control? Like do I think I will smoke one cigarette, but can't resist or stop myself and smoke one more immediately after the other! In your case maybe a three hour scroll around on that site instead of the intended one hour.

Do I get irritated, or anxious when I'm working, or with others, or somehow prevented from indulging in that one thing? Do I hate those situations and crave going back to the site?

Is it suffocating, clashing, or interfering with the important priorities of my life?

BTW, I have been an active addict of drugs for three decades , almost died but miraculously found a way to get clean of every kind of drugs, sixteen years ago, and has been understanding my addiction & nature of addiction more deeply since then.
Thank you

i'm the same. i spent like 4 years of my life constantly hyper focused on this random chat app. it wasn't even a good one yet i still all my time on it. i literally snapped my phone in half to stop me from using it.
I don't use fb anymore nor have Instagram or Twitter, never used tiktoks. Just I am here.

Just enjoy, go with the flow and take a break to get some sun and hump from time to time.
