Does an animal's life has the same value as a human life?

We are at the pinnacle of the evolutionary pyramid. But does that give us the moral right to end anotherlife? Or does the rest of life exist to supplement our survival and happiness?

There are now laws prohibiting animal cruelty, but no, animal lives are not valued (in the legal sense) as much as human lives. But to be fair, all human lives still aren’t valued equally, either.
