Does an animal's life has the same value as a human life?

We are at the pinnacle of the evolutionary pyramid. But does that give us the moral right to end anotherlife? Or does the rest of life exist to supplement our survival and happiness?

I don't think animal's lives have the same value, but that doesn't give us license to abuse them. You can pretty much tell the quality of a person by how they treat those who are beneath them...
