Does an animal's life has the same value as a human life?

We are at the pinnacle of the evolutionary pyramid. But does that give us the moral right to end anotherlife? Or does the rest of life exist to supplement our survival and happiness?

@Renkon it could be so argued but not if that means all living organisms are of equal value. Not only do I value the lives of mosquitoes and flies below mine, but I value their lives less than than I value my own short-term health and comfort
