Five years later, I'm still thinking I see my abusive ex randomly around town

I will just see his face on someone else's face and have a panic ...attack?

I really never thought this was a thing and for the first while when it was happening, I really thought it WAS him (I'm quite sure it never has been, he lives hours away).

It's not impossible, but it seems unlikely

I've had two people do me wrong......... and Karma (amongst other things LOL) has struck them down so damn hard that i doubt i will ever see either one of them again. and im okay with that.

That happens to me all the time. I see some guy on a Harley with a black bucket helmet and a red beard, and I think it's the ex. I freak, wondering why the hell he is riding his Harley past my apartment building...but then I look more closely and the guy is actually thinner...and young...and the ex wasn't capable of being thin. 😉😉

@4meAndyou it's a bit different for me, I will actually see his face

I think that it's only natural. We are traumatised by negative experiences until such time as they no longer pose a threat in our minds. Phobias work in much the same way. You can think of it as similar to an important job left undone. It's hard to feel relaxed until it's done. Take that and magnify by 100 when it comes to phobia and possibly 1000 when it comes to trauma.

@SW-User it's so frustrating 😣 I am hoping one day it won't be a thing

Our traumatized minds do such shitty things to us. ☹️

@caccoon that’s no way to live sweetie.

@SW-User luckily it happens less than once a month, but it's really distressing and confusing when it does.

I mean, shouldn't my eyes be able to see better than...???
SW-User
@caccoon it’s not your eyes.
