Why virtue signaling, both online and off, pisses me off.
On one level is the blatant lack of outward authenticity; you can just sense the bullshit. It is so apparent that if shit ever hit the fan the signaler would care nothing for these PBS cookie cutter values that they're spewing.
On another level is the infeasibility of it. I'm sorry (not really), but most of the values we are taught in the modern world are meant to make the masses meak and unwilling to bite back at those who would exploit them. People who want to yogi sit and sing hymns while somebody pisses into their open mouths make me sick.
And on the deepest level is the blatant lack of inner authenticity; to lie to others is one thing, but to lie to oneself is just tragic. In my experience, those who habitually virtue signal tend to be the most miserable and unfulfilled of people; duds. People who squander their true potential, and spiritually castrate themselves in order to fit into a mold that some imagined audience demands that they fill. They think that they've killed the beast within, but in reality it is simply eating them from the inside; hollowing them out. It's why they feel so empty.
