You ever read a book you both kinda dislike, yet also see good in it?

Been reading this book, “Surrounded By Idiots”. The book breaks people up into 4 different (colors) , meaning 4 attitudes/ways a person generally handles their daily life’ . It explains the 4 types and how they will handle the same common situations so differently.

I think what makes me like the book is that even though it does put people in boxes a bit, the function of the book is to remind the reader to give people the benefit of the doubt rather than presuming everyone you don’t naturally hit it off with is an idiot.

It’s based on a common thing most people unconsciously do where we hit it off best with people who have dispositions that resemble ourselves.

Lastly, it gives advice on how to meet these people where they are at, so they will receive you better.

I’m not usually a fan of profiling people. To the author’s credit, they also tell the reader to take the book with a grain of salt and that, in reality, people are often a mix of ‘2 colors’.

I don’t know. I was skeptical 75% of the way through, but then as he described working with these people I very quickly remembered times in my life that I’ve utilized some of those tactics in situations where I recognized the person’s ‘color’.

I hate that i can't read books. I try i have books i really want to read but after reading for a while i stop reading the words and its more like i just look over them. Then i have to reread the page. I just give up at that point.

My eyes are bad, so most of the time I listen to audiobooks while cleaning unless it’s for serious studying or a topic that require more focus. I can’t leisurely listen to a book about physics while I put away dishes and remember much. 🤭 @Cigarguy101

Your review of this book intrigues me. I am one of those that does sadly all too frequently judge a book by its cover. Sometimes I am correct; sometimes I am mistaken.

Thank you for providing your review. I actually want to read this.

I hate when you can't decide whether to give up on the book or keep reading.

@PepsiColaP it’s hard to say. I’m ‘get shit done’ like red, analytical like blue, and interpersonal like green, but I’m not domineering, I care a lot about being considerate, and I don’t avoid conflict. I like change and novelty like yellows, but I dislike being the center of attention.
@WhateverWorks youre a rainbow

@WhateverWorks It is describing to point out others as idiots .
But oneself , is one really better than others ?
Before checking others to degrade them , one must check oneself to find how degrade they are .

No, the book is about how just because someone behaved or thinks differently than you does not mean they are an idiot. Read the post silly. @Max41
