Is life too long?(both)

A great many of us never thought about the future when we were young.
I remember when I received my first pay packet at 15 years of age in 1977.
On it was my retirement date, 2027. Wow, that seemed like a hundred years away.
Why would I need to think about saving for my retirement?
I come from a working class family, my father was the earner, that is what he done. He earned enough money to raise, house, feed and educate five children.
He gave no advice. He let his children make their own way. Plenty of mistakes were made.
He said that is how one learns to live life. Mistakes had to be made to grow.
Personally, I never even started to think about saving for retirement until well into my forties.
My life, without advice, saw me squander all of my income, every week.
Not until I came out of my 30 year drunken stupor did I finally start to take notice of the world. What I saw was wickedness.
So many people out to con/scam a person.
Life in these situations can seem too long.
Day after day of drudgery, working to live, working to save enough for when the senior years arrive.
These days? Life still seems too long.
I am still working and will be still working for another seven years, though I doubt my health will hold up that long.
Working to have a little money behind me. Enough to be able to afford petrol for an occasional trip out into the Aussie bush.

I agree with so much here.
We never think about our pensions until it's too late and no one bothers explaining the importance of it.

@BridgeOvertroubledWaters True. We are left to flounder and then the senior years are upon us.
Without adequate means for a comfortable retirement.
Too many people are being left behind in this dog eat dog life.
Every man for himself.
@Gusman and the rat race never gives up so we are too busy to think about it much until it's too late

@BridgeOvertroubledWaters Without going too deeply into it, Capitalism is destroying more people's lives than it is helping.
Though Capitalists point to many millions of people are being brought out of poverty by the Capitalist system.
That may be true, but at what cost? Living just above the poverty line, having to work for minimum wage to buy food. Working two/three jobs just so the Capitalists can make more obscene profits.

Not really true though. They exclude those not looking for work. Yet those people have basically given up, because the wages are so low.
