don't you hate it when...

Usually when we are proud of something it is best to keep it to ourselves for that very reason.

It would be like say you just bought some real nice mountain bike that you just love and someone might say, "So you owe all that money for (whatever debt) and you are out buying a bike. THAT was a wise purchase."
Couldn't they at least pretend to be happy for you?

My step dad was like that sometimes.
When I was in high school, my best friend's mom had this gym membership for herself and my friend. So my friend wasn't using hers so I basically started going in her place. I mean it was free to me at least. It was pretty nice and I told my step dad about it thinking he would be like, "Hey, why not? Is it pretty nice there?" but instead he goes, "All that fitness equipment in this house and you are over at the f^ckin' gym."

So what happened in your case?

That happens all the time. Many people are just jealous. If they like you they will be supportive but if they don’t they will try to put you down.
