Emily Dickinson Knew The Rap.

"Unable are the Loved to die
For Love is Immortality,
Nay, it is Deity –
Unable they that love – to die
For Love reforms Vitality
Into Divinity."
Emily DIckinson
I'm burying both of my parents tomorrow.....but please hold your sorrow for me....it's truly okay.
It sounds strange, but Dickinson certainly understood.
My dad died some years ago from complications due to Parkinson's. My Mum passed just before Thanksgiving of last year of natural circumstances and so gathering family stretched around the world takes time, and certainly, we needed time and space to make this work. The beauty is that my mum and dad are both, again, together for their final performance before those they loved, and whom they were loved by.
I wish to rob those better narrators than myself on their reflective merits of Dickinson's short poem. The truth is, I've had to read and re-read it.
The beauty of this short piece is, to me at least, that love is eternal....and that those remembered have left behind that sort of agape love that is timeless, applied to each and every member they've had that intimate relationship with in life, returned it, remembering each individually with that same sense of love imbued, understanding that love is timeless....pure, and in that moment, loved in the memory and deed.....and so, unable to die. The emotion is timeless. 😐
At least, this is my understanding. May those of you affected in your own past, or those recently affected, understand the principle.
