Well, sometimes you have a memory that comes from a dream that somehow gets stored right next to the memories from your 'awake' life. You forget that you had the dream, but the memory from the dream is still there and gets shuffled in with your 'awake' memories. Then something happens that is similar to the dream that your forgot you had, and that stored memory comes to the forefront of your mind. Your subconscious remembers, but your conscious mind doesn't realize it's from a dream that you forgot you had.
