Life and death and guns

I see there is another gun massacre in the USA.
Big hugs to the victims and their families.
Please, USA, ban the gun. Your gun culture is costing far too many innocent lives.

sorry, the attack on freedom is happening. Guns will not be banned. The biggest cost of innocent lives is abortion.
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@TexChik I bet the parents of the primary school kids who were murdered doubt that warped logic.
TexChik · F
@HarrietteSpeedy Facts dont lie. Obama had the most mass shootings of any president, ever.

And creepy joe said he was not interested in protecting schools. We have always have had guns in this country, but we havent had socialists until the last 20 years or so.
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@TexChik What has that to do with the thousands of people murdered every year? The entire gun culture is crazy.
TexChik · F
@HarrietteSpeedy Thousands by gun? In a country with 330,000,000 people and a leftist government that wont punish the perp if they are of color and that allows chicago to remain a war zone rather than admit their ideas about gun control failed? Most murders are committed with knives and ball bats , are you going to advocate we cant cut up our food or play baseball too.?
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@TexChik In 2020 alone, there were over 40,000 gun deaths in the USA: over 19,000 murders.
Surely you accept that is too high.
There were 35 in England and Wales in the same period. Given that the population of England and Wales is about 65 million and the US about 300 million, that would mean roughly 120 in the US as a comparison.
TexChik · F
@HarrietteSpeedy That is complete BS.
SilkandLace2 · 46-50, M
@TexChik YES
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@TexChik Actually it's correct. And in most western countries, the figures would be roughly the same as the UK.
TexChik · F
@HarrietteSpeedy Nope, you are a bald faced liar. Proof is great. Show me the FBI stats for 2020.
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@TexChik Try this: https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/02/03/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/
or this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate

You live in a terribly violent, dangerous country
TexChik · F
@HarrietteSpeedy sorry, only the FBI stats are the official record of crimes in the US
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@TexChik They are in the first link I sent. They provided the figures I mentioned to you. 19,000 odd murders and around 24,000 suicides by gun.
TexChik · F
@HarrietteSpeedy You said 40000 murders. Now go look at the most common used weapons in murders. Knives and hammers top the list. London had a higher murder rate than NYC , using knives. You cant take care of your business, why do we need your nose in ours? SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED is very specific and all encompassing.
Mak03 · F
@HarrietteSpeedy 54% of gun deaths in america were suicides 43% were murders 446 out of the 45,222 gun related deaths in 2020 so the argument that gun control would end mass shootings is rather thin.
recently in west virginia a woman with a handgun prevented a man with a rifle from shooting up a graduation party. if that woman did not have her pistol a lot of young people might have died.
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@Mak03 You'd accept a massive suicide rate then? And in West Virginia, if that man did not have a rifle, he could not have attempted to shoot up the party.
TexChik · F
@HarrietteSpeedy guns don’t cause suicide genius, mental illness does.
Mak03 · F
@HarrietteSpeedy i do not like the suicide rate but i assure you once people are that far in a dark place the means will not matter. in countries that ban guns completely how are there still shootings? i do not want to argue the amount of shootings, if guns are banned there should not be one shooting so obviously not every gun is legal. they have not reported rather the rifle in the west virginia case was legal that i have seen so there is no way you can say he would not have had it.
Mak03 · F
@HarrietteSpeedy i would like to ask you if you could ban either one of these weapons which would you prefer was not available and why?
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@HarrietteSpeedy Logic says 1,000,000 abortions occur every year, that is 1M babies aborted. Last year 45, 000 people were killed by firearms, 24,000 of those were suicides and the remainder some 20,000 were homicides, no matter what kind of logic you use, 1 million is more than 20K.
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@Mak03 Guns create an easy suicide. Most other methods take thought. The ease encourages self killing
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@Roadsterrider Which is irrelevant to the topic of gun control.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@HarrietteSpeedy An argument against gun control isn't relevant to a discussion on gun control. How many lives are lost by other means isn't relevant to a discussion on gun control. If 250,000 people a year die because of malpractice, and 20,000 die from criminal activity with a firearm, by all means the firearm problem should be addressed first.
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@Roadsterrider The topic is gun control, or lack thereof. If you wish to discuss another matter, you are free to open a thread on that subject.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@HarrietteSpeedy The post very clearly talks about the loss of innocent lives in relation to firearms, but I do understand your point, anything that would bring context to that statement and show how ludicrous a knee jerk reaction of banning guns would be can't be part of the conversation. We must do something simple and fast so that everyone feels safer even though it isn't true.
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@Roadsterrider Like banning guns? As other western countries have done- successfully. It works everywhere else - are the people of the USA so fixated with playing with things that bang- and kill?
