I just try to remind myself that most people are really unremarkable on a grand scale, and what matters most is making a difference in your own little place in the world. Beyond that, becoming someone who's worth remembering is more difficult than ever, since the population as a whole has grown dramatically. A corollary to this, however, is that a remotely prestigious position now vs a comparable prestigious position a few hundred years back is more meaningful, since there are more people who you have the potential to positively impact.
Sometimes when I'm lost in this train of thought, my mind wonders to people like mountain climbers and professional athletes, who seem incredible to an outsider and receive endless adulation. But from a moral standpoint, these people basically don't matter anyway, as their work is usually limited to fap material for the billions of hardworking people and low-lives alike who actually keep society running. IDK if you find that comforting, but I sure do.
