Could you be in a relationship with someone you have a different worldview then

Could you date/marry someone who disagrees with you on politics/morals/religion/life/etc?

I don’t think I could.

Does their attractiveness make a difference?
Allelse · 36-40, M
HELL NO!!!!!! I grew up around idiots who married and who had opposing views and it was hell!!! Always fighting and screaming and yelling and carrying on. To hell with that. No, no, no, no. I can't even be friends with somebody who is that different from me, it'd piss me off too much.
same. i respect ppls opinions, but i don’t fuck with them. @Allelse
Allelse · 36-40, M
@deathfairy See I don't even respect a person's opinion when they're wrong, so I'm no fucking good with people who are just plain goddamn motherfucking WRONG!!!! And whose throats I want to rip out and whose heads I'd love to smash again and again and again and again and again AND AGAIN!!! INTO A FUCKING GUTTER!!!
No, I wouldn't maintain a relationship with or marry someone who disagrees with me about politics, morals, religion and life and I would question why they would want to marry me if we were so opposite.

You do know this is hypothetical right? Most people don't stretch out too many interactions when a number greater than zero doesn't like the 2nd party. Yes?

@softspokenman
@Vin53 Are you questioning my ability to understand the post ?

The people we choose to spend our lives with are most likely going to partner in being parents and raising a child. If you don't have it together and figured out before that child comes along... be ready for a bumpy ride.
Vin53 · M
I'm sorry, but who exactly are you referring to? Kids having kids or somehow by doing that, now all of a sudden they've matured as a result of their experiences...?

@Vin53 Not sure where you got all of that from, but.... don't start with me if you don't get the point of it.
Today, if anyone chooses to start, I will finish it and it won't be nice. Read, grasp an understanding or don't.... but don't push buttons today!!!!

Date/marry with differing:

Political views - Yes
Morals - No
Religion - Absolutely
Life views and goals - No

I measure attraction, not attractiveness. Mind over make-up for sure…

@Adogslife ^ This.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@LadyBronte Ty 😊
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Adogslife You're welcome. :)
Torsten · 36-40, M
yeah I am not closed minded at all or judge people by their different beliefs and only want to be around those who think identically to me. That is boring
Sharon1 · 31-35, F
@Torsten we’ll not necessarily identical, but the core stuff would need to be the same. At least for me
Torsten · 36-40, M
@Sharon1 relationship goals I think you need to match as in wanting kids or marriage and so on. Religion, politics are not a issue with me. If they respect my beliefs, I will respect theirs
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M
🤔.......Take Politics / new legislation for an example. My wife and I don't always vote for the same politician / party in elections. We don't always vote for the same new laws and amendments on the ballot. We discuss things and tell each other the we are going to vote and why. We have NEVER argued over politics even when we vote differently. We never vote a straight ticket. We know all the bullshit that goes along with politics and don't let it get between us.
Scribbles · 36-40, F
I don't think people have to agree on everything, but if you don't have compatible worldviews at the very least, it's going to be trouble.

I don't think the constant disagreements would be worth it.
I could be friends with them, but date or marry? No.
Sharon1 · 31-35, F
@Scribbles agree
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Not with all those differences, especially morals.
justanothername · 51-55, M
Ideally you want similar views to your spouse.
Steve42 · 56-60, M
I wouldn't choose to.
Sharon1 · 31-35, F
@Steve42 agree. I don’t think I would be able to
SW-User
Nope
I’ve lost friends due to that
Vin53 · M
everybody has different "world views" from zero to 100 as to which way they swing. A worldview, yes perhaps. But in all manners, this is a human deciding mechanism at work More so, your differences listed don't end at the end of that list.

There has to be some mutual attraction for bonding to happen else the relationship won't even progress to next level. Possible that difference of opinion can itself be an attraction which becomes engaging content.
Miram · 31-35, F
To an extent, yes.

Behaviors and actions matter more.
cycleman · 61-69, M
Only if they are NOT a Trump supporter.
Strongtea · 22-25, M
No, I need them to think the way I do
ZombiesAteMyArm · 41-45, M
Sure, to a point.

and no
No thanks ‼️

Not long term.

My husband and I actually disagree on quite a bit. Personally I always found extended time with someone with all the same viewpoints or opinions as me quite dull. I enjoy the back and forth that comes from not thinking the same way. I’ve found loving someone who doesn’t have all the same beliefs as me actually opened my mind and heart quite a bit. It’s fairly easy to label strangers who don’t agree with certain things as any number negative descriptions. If you know them in a deeper way it’s incredible how much you learn from that other side even if you still don’t agree on the end.
DDonde · 31-35, M
I have in the past.
