Does your country have a long term welfare system?

Australia has a welfare system that allows most people to live without going hungry.
Though I have heard over the last few years that this system will be completely phased out eventually.
This could happen as early as 2037/40? or earlier.
Pundits are saying our welfare system is unsustainable. Well if we keep bringing in immigrants of course it will be unsustainable.
The reason superannuation schemes were introduced was so that Governments would not have to fund peoples retirement.
Super is okay for those with full time jobs but as we are seeing, full time is being overtaken by casual (with less hours - less super).
Millions of people do not have a job and this will still be the case in 10 - 20 years time.
Those people will be discarded and crime will soar.
Plus a real negative re super is that the majority of superannuation is linked to the stock market which is almost certain to have a major crash every decade.
I dread the future of humanity for the have nots.

Australia has an aging demographic....one way to grow the taxpaying workforce is immigration as our birthrates are to low to sustain our population.

Unemployment statistics are a lie, you maybe unemployed, looking for work but if you are not on centalink payments you do not get counted. Similarly if you work for one hour a week you are considered employed.

I'm in the UK.

We've a good welfare state but with so many now needing to use food banks or choose between heating and eating its essentially being phased out by inflation out stripping it.

Also our decision to try to stop young families immigrating in seems to me counter intuitive. We need more young people to grow the working population as the aging own also grows. Else at some point surely the system will reach a point where it simply fails.

In the US it is working at WalMart in your seventies and eighties. Taxes fund a ridiculously large military.

@Crazywaterspring Both Medicare and Social Security receive more funding than the military. Not saying it's not bloated, but we're spending plenty on social services too.

@Crazywaterspring what do mean by Walmart
