I can’t bring myself to apply for scholarships. I don’t like begging for money

I know I could qualify for numerous scholarships and the money would surely be helpful, but there’s something about a board of strangers reviewing my inspiration p*rn essay, comparing it to the other trauma turned triumphs stories that feels so degrading.

“Welk, we really like the story about the blind, single mom whose past family trauma made her decide to go into this field, but the essay about the DREAMER in the wheelchair is also pretty good. Who has a higher GPA again? I know they both volunteered, but who did more volunteer work?”

I can never bring myself to apply. In the end I always decide that the money isn’t worth competing for who has the saddest victory story.

It makes no sense to pay for something when someone else is willing to unless it’s paid for you in another way.

But… suit yourself. Someone else will enjoy it and prob appreciate it much more.

I love how irrationally snippy people have gotten over this issue 🤣

Yes, rather than participating in a process that I believe is dehumanizing, I seek out other ways to pay for school. And yes, whenever I contemplate applying for the scholarships I would qualify for I decide that I still strongly disagree with the process, so I don’t submit. The money doesn’t mean more to me than my principles @DoubleRings

@WhateverWorks I’m not being irrational or snippy. I have zero investment in what you do and your choices don’t affect me. I do think it’s stupid - but you don’t know me either so who cares what I think? Suit yourself. Like I said someone else would love the opportunity and will be happy for less competition.

Generally when I have zero investment in something I don’t get a snippy attitude about it 🤷🏻‍♀️ At least you recognize that it is a competition though, so it’s not that you don’t understand my perspective. We just don’t have the same values come up with it, which is why you assume I’m ungrateful. I think it’s funny that my post didn’t make any assumptions about other people who choose to participate in whatever scholarship programs or about their reasons, but a couple people assumed that I have some nerve judging the process for sed free money and willfully not participating.
How dare I.. lol
