sis' mic isn't working

I can't figure it out from here someone give me an idea, her computer isn't registering mics being plugged in

Is it a USB or a 3.5mm jack plug?
If it's the USB thing try using different ports or a different plug, and if it's the 3.5mm jack look in the device manager for Input Devices.

If it's not there at all try the mic at another PC and if it doesn't work there it's prolly broken.

Either a software setting or a faulty socket in the computer.. ? .. Probably the former..
the computer is too new and that's not the issue unless both of her mic jacks are broken. idk what the software problem is

It'll be a settings thing then, probably..
it might be disabled and depends on the system program how she can enable it or not
en Control Panel.

Depending on your version of Windows, Control Panel is usually available from the Start Menu or the Apps screen.
What you do next depends on what Windows operating system you're using:

In Windows 10 and Windows 8, tap or click on the Hardware and Sound link.

In Windows 7, click System and Security.
she has it open already just can't seem to figure it out
she should see some speaker and just check it

It may help to restart the chat program and/or the computer after the mic was plugged in.
we've restarted the computer alot, idfk

@DestructivePersona: Then I have no idea either. Somehow my computer doesn't always recognize my mic either when I plug it in while the computer is on, but restarting always solved it for me.
