So began the famous Batman series.
Few know that the word "Dark Knight" comes from the spiritual experience of suffering - called "Dark Night of the Soul" - that comes before a Spiritual Awakening. In spiritual terms the "Dark Night of the Soul" is what results in inner transformation; one which eventually leads to wisdom and light, so as to overcome ones suffering (of loss, pain, fear, despair, guilt, anxiety etc). It's darkness that eventually gives way to light.
Bruce Wayne overcame his fears and awakened into the Dark Knight.
