It can lead to physical health problems, substance abuse, and self harm without treatment. It could become too hard to hold a job which leads to a whole other set of problems.

@KristinaM Wickedly, I have to say this - some with depression, substance abuse, also manage to create a beautiful life. So, I can't say treatment is the ONLY option, but since you are looking for help, her words ring true.,

Long enough it will distort how you see the world. You can see the world wrapped in depression, and I don't want to say all others are happy, but if you can't see outside the abyss of depression it taints how you see everyone else, too.

@OtuLight I meant when someone's depressed for long there are strong chances that their personal relationships with others go for a Toss..n that is really sad.
Depressed people are mostly sad, inattentive, demotivated, with no confidence and security.
