What things did you learn when you first left home that really surprised you?

Living on your own is so much harder than you think it's going to be.

It costs a lot of money to be poor.

If there's nobody to remind you to do stuff, you have to tell yourself.

How expensive it is. My first grown experience was having to pay $600 dollars for my own new tires on my car

That food doesn't automatically appear on the table... if I had a table.

that they don't package much food for one person meals.

That the cops will drag you back everytime if you're 10 years old .

Existing is expensive.

Nothing the first time because I joined the military and wasn’t paying for a lot of things myself still. 😅
Lots of wake up calls after that though. I was broke and owed so much money all of a sudden.

The first thing I remember after moving out is that you miscalculate the day to day staples when you’ve been used to others providing them. You pack your belongings, but who packs silverware and dishes, for example ? A small thing, but I later bought that for my brother when he left home, because he hadn’t considered it, either. 😅

How to eat spaghetti for 3 weeks straight because I only knew how to cook enough for an army and refused to waste it.

I was far more capable than my parents led me to believe.

That food is expensive and that I had very few people to rely on.

It takes less than 5 minutes to change the locks on the front door.

That everyone didn't live like we did. 😂

Cooking and doing laundry isn't as easy as my Mom made it look.

working for a living kinda sucks , lousy pay and rents are pricey

Money runs out pretty fast, and that mum is going to accuse me of being a heroin junkie.
