I'm starting to lose my confidence

I'm not doing too well finding a job. Actually I've found lots of jobs but none of them have hired me. I was confident for so long. I'd do my interviews with motivation knowing I have the skills they want, but then nothing. I'm starting to wonder whats wrong with me. In all honesty though I must be lacking in how I'm going about getting a job. I'm 41 and I can count on one hand all the jobs I've ever had. I didn't really have to put much effort out to get them. I think I just need to adjust to the reality that its going to take more strategy and job search skills to get employed.

Don’t give up hope. I was in your shoes a couple of years ago. It was hard and there seemed to be no end to it. It felt as if all the skills I’d picked up over my previous career were without value. But it wasn’t the case.

You are right to readjust your expectations, these are after all trying times. But don’t loose heart. Remember who you are, really are. And what you have achieved. Make sure that shines through in your applications and let others know who you are. It might take some time, but it will happen.

what do you do? What type of jobs are you applying for?

@morrgin I understand. I have another friend that older folks have hired to help them in their home ( she gets tested and wears a mask) and goes out and does their errands for them. They are especially grateful and pay in cash. Just an Idea for side work

@TexChik that is a good idea and I love helping the elderly

@morrgin They really need it too right now, they all need groceries ,meds, and sometimes a little help around the house and they need someone to trust. You can get bonded ( means you have been vetted for not having any criminal activity ) and insured. Plus take a CPR class and boom!

Make sure you have a plan for checking all the boxes in terms of the specifics of the job description and displaying your ability to learn on the job and get along with people. It's a generally crappy time to be on the job market, be patient and believe in yourself ;)

ive been there myself, be sure to include key words and phrases from ad in your resume or application. make it single page also. dont make yourself sound over qualified also

You might be tempted to play "reverse psychology" to make it look like you aren't too desperate. It will be used against u.

Best thing is to be fiercely sure what you want. Know yourself, you will be sorry if you don't cause your self-ignorance will be used against you.

The economy will be more humane when we plan for it. Meanwhile plan to succeed your way but make sure it happens.

I'm sorry to hear this. But don't give up. These rejections are just paving the way for you to get the right job!

It's a cold world of reason...show them how they're to profit by hiring you.
