What would you think?

I owe my sitter money. I have forgotten a few times now and she keeps chasing me up. I asked for my key back the last time. She said she would give the key back when she got her money. Would you say this is rude and also illegal that she will refuse to hand it over? I know I also owe her money but I was surprised by this

I'm seeing your responses to people here. You can't be f*cking serious.

She's not being passive aggressive. She's trying to figure out the best way to get you out of this self-entitlement mode you're in. If you were able to take the time out of your day to interview & hire her, you can take the time to pay her. What you're doing to her is absolutely unconscionable. Give me your boss's name and number. I'll ask him to hold up your paycheck. Let's see how well you handle that when it's time to pay bills.

You are in breach of a contract. If she took you to court, you'd lose. Pay her and she'll return your house key. It's that simple. She doesn't have any interest in stealing from you. She just wants payment for the work you hired her for. How fucking obtuse can you be? Or are you trolling everyone here? I think that's probably more likely.

@SW-User Spot-on, absolutely correct, it’s breach of contract, plain & simple. What an obnoxious, self-obsessed fool

Yes. Its rude. Pay her
If she gives you her key - then, what does she have to bargain with you with???

She wants her money, you want your key - just meet up and do an exchange and you'll both get what you want and be happy...

Busy doesn’t mean crap. If you have time to hound her about a key, you have time to write her a check. Get over yourself and pay her for her services.
SW-User
Bitch pay her. You could always change your locks. It's Asinine to not pay for services rendered.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
you OWE her money. I'd keep your key too.🤷🏾‍♀️

I'm pretty sure the agreement was that he/she would get paid for their services...

@Jenni855 how does being busy have to do with not paying someone? Could you not have simply left her payment on the counter? You have to pay people if they performed a service.
SW-User
@Jenni855 she realises how busy you are, because she's spending her time, currently unpaid, to watch your kids, allowing you to be that busy.

Show a little gratitude and give back whats own.
SW-User
@Jenni855 wow thats such a fucking rude thing to say - busier than she will ever realise ,no matter how many shares you are taking care of or meetings you are holding ,you are not above her in this matter .She did her job ,now you pay her .
Just because she babysits and you do some kind of" way too above her"job ,doesnt mean you can insult her or deprive her of her rightful money
JoePourMan · 61-69, M
It's not illegal
She should definitely hold the key hostage
You didn't forget, you just chose not to pay as promised
Once you pay her back she should never loan you money again.
BalmyNites · F
I wouldn’t babysit for you again if I were she, there’s nothing worse than people who don’t pay on time
Azlotto · M
Simple, just pay her.
Perry4444 · 56-60, M
Pay her ffs. Just hope she's not a bit of a nutter
SW-User
When did you pay her last time ? If its really a long time ,no matter how busy you are ,hers actions are justified.
sassypants · 36-40, F
She just wants paid just like the rest of us do. Keeping the keyboard the only leverage she thinks she has.

@Stereoguy I haven't cheated her out of it. It's a strange ultimatum she has given me which comes across badly. She will get the money but I have just been too busy and she should understand that it will take a bit more time than normal
