Obviously all have their uses in general, but the pistol is the only one that's really useful for metropolitan civilian life. Owning a gun will rarely ever protect you from crime if you don't carry it on your person at all times, and that's simply not practical in the vast majority of cases.
The rifle is probably better if you live way out in the sticks though, since you can use it for pest control and hunting far more effectively than a pistol. Better range, accuracy, and stopping power makes for cleaner kills.

@Straylight Yeah, definitely a good thing to have. It's one of those things where it's very rare to need, but when you need it, you [i]really[/i] need it... 😬 Personally, I'll probably go for a pepperball gun when I get the chance just because I like the functionality a little more.
