@butterflymind1 Certainly very important but Mary Seacole should also be given credit for her work in the Crimea

@Dlrannie Mary Jane Seacole (née Grant; 1805 – 14 May 1881) was a British-Jamaican business woman and nurse who set up the "British Hotel" behind the lines during the Crimean War. She described this as "a mess-table and comfortable quarters for sick and convalescent officers", and provided succour for wounded servicemen on the battlefield. Coming from a tradition of Jamaican and West African "doctresses", Seacole used herbal remedies to nurse soldiers back to health. She was posthumously awarded the Jamaican Order of Merit in 1991. In 2004, she was voted the greatest black Briton.

@Dlrannie Wikipedia has its occasional uses. Did I ever share that I studied an account of this terrible war, in the original Russian? About 45 years ago (I've run out of fingers and non Covid toes to keep count on), I translated and then instantly expunged from my brain every fookin Russian word for mortar, grenade, shell, bomb, bullet, gun, canon, rifle, musket, wound (you get the idea?) Actually, this is like 45 year overdue therapy for me. Thank you for listening. Can I get up off the couch now please? 🤗
