I had a similar experience with a big bobcat. I was fishing in a Georgia swamp and didn't see the cat sitting on a stump only 15 or 20 feet from me. It let go with it's scream, and I almost fell out of the boat.

Odd, they normally don't roar. They normally are extremely quiet unless threatened.
