Living to long can be a burden

We visit an aged care home regularly to visit people that don’t get visitors. I have been talking to a lady who is 97. She never seems to be very happy even though she’s in great health for her age. She said to me today “I’ve been here way to long” I asked her what she meant and she said “I’ve outlived my siblings, husband and children, I hope today is my last day. I didn’t know what to say, I just sat there. Can’t even hold her hand because of the glass window between us. I’ve never felt so useless in my life. I don’t know what to say next time I visit her, it’s so so sad 😕😢

Don’t worry, there’s nothing really you can say. Just go and see her and talk normally, that’s what she needs. What you’re doing is precious to her. 🤗

@Ian123 I do and she’s starting to open up now. My guardian said we’ll take her out for a day when we’re allowed to, that will be nice.

@ChloeYoung A very good idea, that’s all she needs a bit of company and someone to talk to 🤗 Hope you are ok, things getting a bit better in the U.K. although we’ve had a lot of deaths. They are talking about some children going back to school although there’s a lot of opposition to it 😀

@Ian123 Same here, we’re going back to school in a couple of weeks. I have been lucky cause my schooling hasn’t suffered

@ChloeYoung Thats good, I don’t think the children will be back fully till September. Some parts of the country are better virus wise. The north where they have the larger cities is not so good as the south where I live. Must be the sea air 😀
