When I lived closest to a river, it was in Florida. Where there were alligators. Even were I not terrified, I was not allowed. 😅

We didn't have a river but we played in the canal and brooks. We used to dam a brook to make a pool for swimming or we swam in the canal, barges were a nuisance though. We even managed to play ice hockey on the canal one year.

We had a few small streams to splash in but swam in farm ponds as a kid. Many times we told our parents we were going to fish then skinny dip, air dry and get home for supper.
No-although i could have.Afon Llwyd -either barely ankle deep or a full raging torrent.
@RubySoo Mine flooded in the sixties.The bottom of the estate was under water.They diverted it after that.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@TheSirfurryanimalWales gosh ..they diverted it!!

There wasn't a river nearby, but I did play in a creek. We had to watch out for venomous snakes, cottonmouths and copperheads.
Kerrmit84 · 36-40, M
Yep grew up in a lovely town by the Thames, some lovely wild swimming spots. Spent afternoons in summer playing in river with Inflatable boats and lilos

Uh...... Me and a few buddies used to strip completely naked and dive RIGHT into this ugly dirty ass river....... Then, we'd slide across the slimy mud when the water would lower....... That was fun... Well, aside from that time one of my friends cut his waist open almost all the way because he wasn't looking where he was going and slid riiiiiiiight into a broken submerged girder.... Dumbass.. ┬┴┬┴┤•ᴥ•ʔ/

I have fond memories of playing unsupervised for hours in a local river valley. We also tried to dam a small channel near a small island (the main channel was too wide). We failed since as the opening narrowed the current got so swift all rocks we tossed in it would get swept away.
Wellington1970 · 51-55, M
Yes,loved doing that and still do if I get the chance!
RubySoo · 56-60, F
...i forgot the tadpoles and frogs!
SW-User
