Love, trust, understanding, being forgiving, giving as well as taking and having fun together. Well, that's how mine has lasted over 37 years.

By recognizing your partner is your best friend, you place each other first above anyone else (you're a team), picking and choosing your battles wisely, and always maintain a sense of humor.

With a 50% divorce rate and alot of unhappy marriages i'd say alot of the ones that survive simply put up with it because of fear of the alternative.. ie:being alone

@Tminus6453 Exactly
@Tminus6453 I think it's higher than 50% -

Takes the right people getting together.
these days they don't.. even the ones that are still married, wish they weren't , if they say they are happy ,are just kidding us and themselves --- the 50s are over.

@MarmeeMarch yeah i was referring to the younger generations. The older folks grew up in a different time where ppl actually had values and marriage vows actually mattered. Nowadays, its upside down especially once the courts get involved.

@MarmeeMarch Wow! I've never met anyone that said that to me. No marriage is perfect but I know people who have issues between them but they stay because they really do love each other.

I think a lot of couples just take each other for granted. It's sad.

@AkAtSUki believe it or not, millennials have lower divorce than the past couple generations at the same point in their lives. Divorces sort of spiked with baby boomers and then lowered with gen x and lowered again with millennials. A lot of that might be because the younger generations tend to delay marriage more.

45 years and counting and I`ve been asking myself the same question. 😬

Sometimes love and sometimes pure laziness to do anything about it.

Marriage is a farce and people stay in them because of kids or they are afraid of actually spending any time by themselves
