Leave your house wide open...do you?

recently i was chatting with a group of friends at my kids school. we got on to the subject of locking the house up when we left....i mentioned that I never did, that all the windows were open and the front door wide open when we went out day or night...we live in a really safe part of town.
Just wondered about anyone else?

When I was living in Portland, OR my roommate and I never locked the doors. It was not a problem for us. I did catch the little neighbor girls in the house when I came home from work, we lived in a very odd little cul-de-sac and the girls lived in two different dwellings just across our small driveway. They were just sneaking in because the woman who was my roommate would let them walk through the house into the garage which was oddly padlocked to see the hicks she had in there in a box. I just gently shooed them home.

Just posted a whole bunch of photos from a place I use to live for twelve years.

The place was extremely remote. I mean like nobody lived near by and many times you had to have a four wheel drive just to get to it.

Both doors had two locks! Always locked them when I left.

You are way too trusting!

We didn't lock up at night till we got burgled while we were in our beds.
And we had this fella at the time.
My suspicion is that he probably warned em to be quiet cos dad was asleep, and "you don't wanna find out what he's like when he's just woken up!". 🥴

You just leave the front door open? Why having a door in the first place then?

@SW-User thats a fucking good question...Ive got no idea where the front door key is to lock the fucking thing LOL
SW-User
@steffybarefootmum sell it! Front doors are expensive
DaddyThomas · 46-50, M
We can’t do that , the risk of getting robbed is too big
steffybarefootmum · 31-35, F
@DaddyThomas thats a shame, down here in nz i'll always go out shopping, or wherever and leave the house wide open - front door, sliding patio doors, all the windows....never a problem...always leave the TV's on and the music system going too...people probably think we're home LOL
DaddyThomas · 46-50, M
@steffybarefootmum I’ve been in Saba in the Dutch Caribbean and no one locks their house. Even the hotel doors don’t have locks

@DaddyThomas Not sure why anyone would lick their house, but to each their own... 😉

No lol I live in a big mean city. 🤭
steffybarefootmum · 31-35, F
@SW-User yeah i live in a city too (in the suburbs) but in a quiet cul de sac....have never had a problem

I triple check if ive locked everything before i leave then wonder if i locked the house when i get to my destination
I can’t remember the last time we locked our doors.
@steffybarefootmum I honestly don’t remember which key on my key ring is for the house. My parents didn’t lock their door either. It’s a very safe town.

@DayDreaming2 yeah we're in suburban Auckland, New Zealand, perfectly safe....have always left the house open. we have alot of outside lighting and house lights that come on automatically in the afternoon, so people probably think we're home
@steffybarefootmum I imagine they do 😁

not the house but have left the car unlocked and a window down, came back and thought it had been broke into :)

We always lock the door if we are gone and even sometimes when we're home.

I wished people were trustworthy enough to not enter an unlocked property.

We always lock the front door if no one else is going to be home
Nope. My house is almost always locked, even when I'm home.

No way lol lock it
steffybarefootmum · 31-35, F
@HannahSky summer down here in NZ, its way too stuffy to close doors or windows......much prefer leaving the house wide open
HannahSky · F
@steffybarefootmum ok maybe it's different there
I leave my house wide open only metaphorically.

Sadly I can't where I live.
