You want to reach customer service for a company, they only way to get hold of them is through their Facebook account.
You try and call a company, an automated response refers you to their website.
There is no law or rule that says you have to have a computer or cell phone, they just make your life impossible to function if you don't.

Advertising really kicked into high gear with the advent of the tv. Note that materialism was huge in the 80's too. Folks got addicted to phones around 30 years ago.
