Well, I think that physical abuse automatically carries with it a certain amount of emotional damage so it's a double whammy.

@sarabee1995 i agree but usyaly the emotional abuse comes before the physical abuse and in most cases carries on afterwards

@sarabee1995 Would you consider a parent spanking a child or maybe using a stick/switch a form of physical abuse?

@sarabee1995 I think the answers you would get regarding CP will partly depend on the age of the person you are speaking to.I grew up with it and it was just normal-at home and school.I had two kids caned when I started teaching-or at least it was decided by someone else they should be.Thought nothing of it at the time. But in most Western countries it is now banned anyway. If injury is caused it is definitely abuse-but a swiftly delivered six of the best I never had a problem with.

@TheSirfurryanimalWales Absolutely it is generational and cultural. Tracie asked my opinion as a 24 year old American. I couldn't imagine a cane being used on a child, but I know that it is still done in some places and was done often in years past here. It's not an easy question to answer for sure, and I don't think there is one answer that is universally applicable.

@sarabee1995 Nope. You said it very succinctly. And I agree.
I was never whacked either.
