Well, I think that physical abuse automatically carries with it a certain amount of emotional damage so it's a double whammy.
@sarabee1995 I think the answers you would get regarding CP will partly depend on the age of the person you are speaking to.I grew up with it and it was just normal-at home and school.I had two kids caned when I started teaching-or at least it was decided by someone else they should be.Thought nothing of it at the time.But in most Western countries it is now banned anyway.If injury is caused it is definitely abuse-but a swiftly delivered six of the best I never had a problem with.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, FVIP
@TheSirfurryanimalWales Absolutely it is generational and cultural. Tracie asked my opinion as a 24 year old American. I couldn't imagine a cane being used on a child, but I know that it is still done in some places and was done often in years past here. It's not an easy question to answer for sure, and I don't think there is one answer that is universally applicable.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 Nope. You said it very succinctly. And I agree.
I was never whacked either.
ThePerfectUsername · 70-79, M
You can have emotional abuse without physical abuse, but you can't have physical abuse without emotional abuse.
ThePerfectUsername · 70-79, M
Thank you Mae. @SweetMae
ThePerfectUsername · 70-79, M
No don't shut up please Tracie. Loads of people have simply never even thought about such things before. It's good to get it out in the open where everyone can see it. @SimplyTracie
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@ThePerfectUsername Thank you.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
It is hard to say which is worse. Both do so much damage. There were times I would rather have been hit to be honest.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SweetMae I think physical abuse like a broken arm will eventually heal. I’m sorry you’ve experienced any kind of abuse. 😔
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@SimplyTracie When someone is beating on you, it is very emotional too!

All abuse is bad, period.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User I agree
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
A pity we couldn't vote 1,2,3,4.

Some emotional abuse could be worse, some physical abuse could be worse depending on the individual circumstances. Emotional abuse is often understated. Physical abuse could result in death.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
Yes and emotional abuse could lead to suicide. 😔
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@SimplyTracie Very true.
SW-User
It feels like it can be as bad in extreme circumstances...
But phisycal would kill you quicker I guess
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User Yeah. There is that extreme. 😔
Reject · 26-30, M
One you have power over, the other you can’t do anything about.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Reject Please explain further
Reject · 26-30, M
@SimplyTracie If someone attacks your emotions, you can decide how much it’s going to affect you. If someone physically assaults you, you’re forced to confront it somehow.
SW-User
I don't recommend either.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User I wish nobody gets abused too.
SW-User
@SimplyTracie I don't like the which is worse debate because each leave different scars, I think.
olderuncle944 · 70-79, M
olderuncle944 · 70-79, M
@SimplyTracie i have been there also
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@olderuncle944 A lot of people have. Sometimes I wonder if the abuser know the consequences of their behavior and they just don’t care.
olderuncle944 · 70-79, M
@SimplyTracie i agree with you there
SW-User
Worst than physical abuse. I never feel better until now.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User I’m sorry. 😔
erosme · 46-50, M
Emotional abuse is more damaging!
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@erosme It’s very damaging. I agree
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
There's no universal right answer. It depends on the intensity, frequency, and the victim. What one person perceives as abuse may not be a big deal to someone else.
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
Out of context of specifics, it’s hard to say.

Physical wounds often heal much faster. Emotional abuse tends to turn the victim into an abuser...
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@JoeyFoxx I’ve heard that does happen often
Anonymouslyyours86 · 36-40, F
emotional abuse is worse, cause there's no evidence it happened to prove it, effects the mind a lot.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Anonymouslyyours86 Yes so true.
midnightsun · 26-30, M
Emotional damage is worse than physical.

It has already been proven through research
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@midnightsun By itself, I agree. What others have said here about physical abuse makes sense too.
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@midnightsun Physical abuse can end in Death...not sure what is worse than that.
SW-User
Both are extremely bad, I really hate seeing someone stay in a relationship with emotional abuse it makes me sick
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User Yes even in schools.
SW-User
@SimplyTracie true kids bulling each other is sad, just out shopping or out for a walk just because someone doesn’t like who you are.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User I think teachers are guilty of emotional abuse too.
If I had to rank one over the other I'd say no, since I've seen someone have ongoing nightmares over the latter
SW-User
After going through both I would say emotional damage, because scars on the mind can take years to heal where a black eye would only take days to heal.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User I tend to agree with you. Though there are degrees of both.
Porcelainhuman · 22-25, F
I put equal because in some way it is but in other ways physical can be worse
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@Porcelainhuman Thank you for commenting.
SW-User
In my experience, yeah. When I was a kid, my family could beat me and molest me all they wanted, and I would tolerate it. But when they would threaten to hit my brother, or when they would abuse my pets, destroy the things I loved, or threaten to kill themselves just to hurt me, I couldn't deal with it. It distressed me more than anything else. I'd rather be drowned a million times than be made to kill my pet. There's just no comparison for me.

In some cases it can be worse
caccoon · 36-40
A hard question, because they usually go hand in hand. I think they both play a part in breaking down a person...
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@caccoon That’s true.
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@caccoon Sad but true
SW-User
Depends they both can be heinous
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@SW-User Yes. I agree
