To feel hurt at this

Guy friend was going through a tough time and would text me daily.
He met a new partner four months after being devastated after his wife left him for another man. Now on several occasions, he has said 'Sorry, I thought I had replied ' in response to my texts which he replies to a day or two later. All he seems to care about is his new woman.

Am I right to feel hurt that he no longer concerns himself with me now he is all better?

There's no right or wrong to how you feel - it's how you feel. Letting somebody - anybody - say you're wrong to feel that way only sets you up for feeling even worse down the line.

So, with that out of the way... I think the more important question to try and unpack is why you feel that way. Are you jealous that she has the majority of his attention? (It's a genuine question, even though I probably sound like a bit of prick for asking it...) Hurt that he's mentally distracted to the point of not responding quickly? Does he do this with every text you send, or only some? If it's only some, is there a pattern - like, does he get lost for late afternoon / evening texts? Weekend texts? Morning texts? If there's a discernible pattern, that may help you work around the issue for a while.

How long has he been with this other woman? That is, is this new relationship still fresh and new? Or have they been together for a while now?

I think if you can take a step back and unpack why you feel hurt and at the same time try to figure out if he has any patterns and such, it may help you out.

@LookingForIt987 They have been together a year. I guess I feel hurt that I was clearly his temporary emotional support, his stopgap until a new woman came along. There is no pattern, happened of a morning and of an evening. Just hurts that he can't even spare me a text now he has her.

@Jenni855 OK, a year is more than enough time for him to have gotten past the “puppy love” stage.

Again, your emotions are valid; don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.
