Do I really need to be told I need to apply myself, to focus, and to grow up?

Wth is the obsession with "the adults in the room" thinking that "working your ass off" arbitrarily is somehow a noble way to spend a lifetime?

This seasonal type of (useless) advice is really starting to get on my nerves.
