If you could retire right now, where would you go to live?

I’d go either further north or further west (I’m in Virginia now.) Some place with less humidity, that’s for sure.

I'm in Virginia myself...My wife and I live in the rural area of Southwestern Virginia surrounded by farmlands, forests, and mountains, but have both lived in towns all our lives (and still do). We like it here in the general area, but if I could retire and we could afford it, we'd find us a house and property that is outside of the city/town in the country surrounded by peace, privacy, and nature instead of traffic and people just feet away all the time. If it meant moving to another part of the state to do that then we would.

@indyjoe I'm from an area of southwest va with lots of privacy, down in the blue ridge mountains, very beautiful remote areas. I moved to northern VA, it's so much more crowded on here, there is literally not a moment when there's not someone within a few feet of you. I'm considering moving back down south, but the job market is so terrible, it's one of the reasons I left.

@ash365 Yeah, the job market sucks here where we are, but I have been fortunate in that respect. We live on a corner lot and we have people walking up and down the sidewalk a lot, and streets as well as neighboring houses within 30 to 50 feet on all sides of us. We like the house we live in...just not it's location.

@ash365 I’m originally from NoVA. I miss everything about it - except the traffic and the high rents. But you pay for everything, one way or another. Places that are cheap to live usually don’t have many other good points.
