Yes, probably.. you are aware of how unenlightened you were previously... And they do say the more you know the more you realise how much you don't know

It makes it harder to take comfort in denial.

Absolutely. Enlightenment doesn't have anything to do with happiness or bliss. And things don't necessarily get easier.
