My daughter has to be insane!!!

I just answered the front door, there was a 41 lbs box from USPS - it had my daughter's name on it, I realized it was 41 lbs when i tried to lift it. I said, "honey, what did you buy that weighs 41 freakin pounds ?"
SHe then told me that she got a great deal on SALT!!!!!
SALT!!!!!!
40+ lbs (4 galons it says on the container) of SALT! ????
o.O ??
So, like any good mother I said.. WHY????
WHY 41 LBS of SALT ????
*sigh*
She told me "Mom it will be worth its weight in gold soon."
So I crossed my arms and said, would you please explain that to me, cuz right now the packing invoice says it was $35, so thats less than $1/pound -- she said... mom, when the economy collapses and the grid goes down ...
i put up my hand and said --- .... well I wont say it here...
*sigh*
She's been hanging out with this new boyfriend for 2 months, he's nice, but him and his family are always talking about survival stuff and I was like ok, so what part of feeling safe and dealing with your fears of an uncertain future, inspired you to spend $35 on 41 lbs of SALT!!! ???
Then she was like "mom, you don't understand!"
and I was like... "you got that right!"
She's in her room now.
and as many mothers have said throughout time --- YOU WAIT TIL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME!
Anyway, WT? ??????

@pagandad Yes, you're right, i've calmed down now, it just through me for a loop!
trackboy · 22-25, M
you dont need that much salt!!! even if everything goes down you are not really adding salt to your food! if your worried about grid down and no food in the stores get some boxes of canned chili from sams club. they come 6 cans to a box and you stack the boxes and date the boxes on the shelf so you know which one to eat first. the boxes are good to keep the mouse in the house off of the cans. 🐀 they have a 2.5 year shelf life. some gallon jugs of water. bottle of vitamin mineral tablets and your all set. chili is a meal in a can. 😺 hide some cash in case the banking system goes down. 💵
LilTiffy4ever · 46-50, F
@trackboy oh my. ok i do actually have several cans of chili and we take multi-vitamins, thanks though for the reply.
trackboy · 22-25, M
@LilTiffy4ever good have canned chili. get it at sams club??? canned food does not need electricity to stay good so is good to have so you have something to eat if the power grid is taken down. boxed food like cerial and granola bars are very good to have on hand too. need lots of shelfs to store it and the jugs of water. does the mouse in the house get into your food there? eat through the candy bar?? bag of chips?? 🐀
Moosepantspatty · 31-35, M
I mean, she ain't wrong. In the event of a total economic collapse, salt would become a incredibly valuable commodity to extend the shelf life of food once the power grid went down.

But jeez, good luck carrying around 40lbs of the stuff 😂
LilTiffy4ever · 46-50, F
@Moosepantspatty if its being carried, it'll be on her back, not mine, i'm too old for this sh**
LilTiffy4ever · 46-50, F
@Butterflykisses24 you said it.
mrbuddhawannabe · 56-60, M
How old is this girl? I hope she used her own money for it. Plus are you prepared for her to convert your house into a bomb shelter with ALL the other provisions that she is also going to buy besides the salt?
mrbuddhawannabe · 56-60, M
Yes, if she is too scared to stay at your house then let her hunker down at her boyfriend's house where they are well prepared for the zombie apocalypse rather than having her have her own fallout shelter.
LilTiffy4ever · 46-50, F
@mrbuddhawannabe if she was younger I'd ground her, i'm gonna have a talk with the new bf next time he's over here.
mrbuddhawannabe · 56-60, M
@LilTiffy4ever Good luck with that. From my experience that you really cannot tell teens anything for they know it all.
Butterflykisses24 · 51-55, F
We go through one container of salt over a five years time.It will last her a lifetime
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
LilTiffy4ever · 46-50, F
I guess I'll NEVER need to buy salt again though.
... starting to laugh a bit, but wow, what an afternoon!
Doctrble · 46-50, M
Add perfume and color sell as bath bombs
LilTiffy4ever · 46-50, F
@Doctrble lol, now that might be an idea :)
Doctrble · 46-50, M
@LilTiffy4ever might work.
Cheap presents if nothing else
biohak · 36-40, M
there is some truth to it there is supposed to be a salt shortage upcoming
SW-User
How old is she?
SW-User
@LilTiffy4ever oh boy! Well if you can't return the salt it would probably be a great thing to donate to food shelves
LilTiffy4ever · 46-50, F
@SW-User I could give it to salvation army or red cross and next disaster they can have enough for a whole town. LOL
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M

well, at least it won’t go bad when the world doesn’t come to an end. 🤷‍♀️ i hope it was some high-grade sea salt.
pentacorn · F
@LilTiffy4ever it’s a bit much, but there was a time when salt was actually worth more than gold per weight. she could be out there buying so many other horrible things. you have a good daughter.
LilTiffy4ever · 46-50, F
@pentacorn Yes, now that i've had some time to calm down a bit, yeah, at least its something we can use... eventually, i'll be carrying that tub with me to the assisted care when I'm 90 LOL! But yeah, I do agree with what you said about salt being worth a bunch in the past, but I just find it hard to believe that it will be worth that much again when its so cheap now.
pentacorn · F
@LilTiffy4ever just make her lug it everywhere until it’s gone. it’ll bring character. 😉
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Damn take her to the store with you, show her it is cheap and plentiful
LilTiffy4ever · 46-50, F
@MarineBob yes, i agree.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Just checked 26 ounce container is.49 cents
I hate when a person is so influenced by a new SO.
LilTiffy4ever · 46-50, F
@canusernamebemyusername yeah, maybe i should send the salt over to HIS house, let them eat it and get high blood pressure. i mean geez!
@LilTiffy4ever I mean salt has been a great commodity throughout history. But this borders on paranoid apocalypse mongering to me.
