Do you normally like your birthdays?
So it's my birthday today, and I always get so depressed during them. I'm not sure why.

I used to be the same way. It was because, beginning my Senior year in HS I stopped accompanying my mother to Nebraska every summer, and my birthday is in August. I asked her to remain home for my birthday many times, but she refused, choosing to be with my Grandfather on his birthday (a few days from mine), instead.
She always told me he wasn't going to be around much longer and that was why she abandoned me on my day. Except he lived for another 30 years after that.
During my Junior year in HS my steady boyfriend and my best friend betrayed me together, and I found out about it AFTER I got home from Nebraska.
I began to get depressed on my birthday every year after that. I always cried. When childhood birthday expectations are high, and don't meet the reality in any way, it is very depressing. I'm okay with being alone on my birthday now. I've done it many times.
