How to differentiate between complete and finished ?

Though both sounds similar, there appears to be a small difference. Often we struggle to differentiate between them.
One funny way to look at is ....
If you marry a right person you become complete.
But if you marry a wrong person you are finished.

The example is apt :) Completed seems to have a sense of accomplishment. But Finished seems less formal.
