Is Bonhomie a thing of yesteryear?

Back in the day, people seemed much kinder to each other even though they did not have two shillings to rub together
Seeing someone in a ditch even if drunk, they would not walk by and leave them
If neighbours were in trouble, or down on their luck, they would rally round and bring food and look after the children, or clean the house.
These days, many people shun their neighbours.
Walk down the main street late at night and what do you see? Gross behaviour in town centred on Saturday Nights.
People urinating, being sick, and copulating in doorways.
I miss the good old days where Bonhomie was the norm.
Now days it seems that Bonhomie's antonym is more to the fore.
Aloofness and coldness towards one's fellow man abounds.

I fear you're right.
Many of us grew up in neighbourhoods where EVERYBODY knew WHO you were !
Through your parents or even your Grandparents ! Either via workplace or church or just neighbours !
So respect had to be given at all times and if you were ever in trouble, word would soon get round and people would offer all kinds of 'help'. And whatever it was, financial; social; ironing; shopping; gardening etc. it would get done without thought of favour !
These days folk fly by on the motorway slowing down to observe the car wreck and may even reach for their phone to take a PHOTO !
Instead of noting WHERE along the road the trouble IS and calling the emergency services. Or even STOPPING to help !

And politicians talk about 'citizenry' as though it's just another soundbite.

[@448576,Picklebobble2] Most of that Looking after those less fortunate has gone now. So sad.

[@546016,Gusman] You know what NEEDS to happen ?
Folk NEED to be OUTRAGED ! And outraged by knowing the RIGHT THING TO DO rather than just accept the crappy bullying techniques employed by current spin doctors when confronted !
It's all very well having a wealthy pleb like Trump or Merkel or May in office. Politics reduces to it's lowest common denominator on a fairly regular basis (Farage for example) but folk need to get OUTRAGED by things they KNOW are wrong because their Grandparents TAUGHT them it was ! And make it CLEAR to politicians (using legal means ! Letters. Phonecalls. E-mails. Media. Etc. that DECENCY is what they should be thinking in terms of. Not POLICY that divides !
know how you feel.

Feel like i was born in the wrong era.

i smile at people in the street, help old people with theur groceries,

SHIT, ive put up with the annoyomg buzzing of a Mudwasp the past three days, coz shes's buildong her nest in my screen door !
[@546016,Gusman] SHIT ! really?

That sucks.
But i know what you mean - most of the people i smile at, jusy look back at me weidly.

Bloody sad.

[@710185,BoobooSnafu] I am very attuned to what is going on in society and see this so often. Very sad that many women are fearful in their everyday lives.
[@546016,Gusman] Hah!
It's not the ones you don't know that a woman needs to fear.!!!
I've never feared walking alone at night.
Ypu just keep your wits about you, and lookeveryone in the eye that comes your way.
I've stopped a few that way, even stuck up a conversation.
The fear comes from much closer to home.

Why else do you think most of them go unreported.?

More civil behavior towards others is still seen in more rural areas. It is impractical in most urban areas as the person in distress is usually bait to lure the unsuspecting.

It's a false perception my friend. Things have never been so good and that is true 100%

[@854658,Asificair] What I am saying is that I remember growing up in a small country town and those down on their luck had people looking out for them.

[@546016,Gusman] it still happens. You just dont see it. Now they do it in inner city tower blocks. I'm not suggesting its utopia and that bad things dont happen. Change happens, look at most of the GoFundMe causes lol, didnt have that back in the day. Kids with cancer being flown across the world by good people giving a $. It's there dude! 🙂
