Beauty or brains?

I guess majority will say brains cause knowledge and all but my friend said...you can learn, but you can't do anything if you're ugly. Well except cosmetic surgeries (nothing against that). Ha

You can't make a dumb person smart. They're just dumb. Nothing wrong with that. At least an ugly person can get plastic surgery. But no amount of learning will help a person that's dumb.

that's wrong ^

@MartinTheFirst If we're talking about "dumb" in a colloquial sense, then it probably isn't wrong, since it would be synonymous with "Stupid", and "Dull". Unintelligent. Now, since intelligence is subjective, and my definition of it is "The ability to apply what one has learned", then the opposite of that, which is "Dumb"/"Stupid" would mean that a dumb or stupid person would be unable to be helped through learning.

@SW-User A stupid person can become smart through education and will-power.

@MartinTheFirst Sure, if that's what you think intelligence is. Personally, I don' think it matters if a person is educated or not. I think that it matters if the person actually absorbs it and uses it. But I can see what you're trying to say. People don't have to be smart to be successful. As long as you work hard, you should be fine. But just because you graduate high school and get a degree doesn't make you smart, in my opinion.

That's not what I said. What I said is that you can become smart through educating yourself and through practicing with will-power. Not "graduate high school".

Smart isn't something you have from birth, it's not something you are, it's something you gain through experience and education and will-power.

@SW-User is your definition of smart is like high iq? Or eq?

@MartinTheFirst I know what you said. You said that people can become smart through educating themselves and practicing willpower. I said that can be true if your definition of "smart" involved education and willpower. Graduating high school is just one form that a person can succeed using education and willpower.

"Smart" can be something you have from birth, according to some people. From what I've read, a significant part of our intelligence comes from our parents. Of course, there are some environmental factors that come into play as well. For example, nutrition, a good place to live, the country you are in, etc. can all play a role in how well we perform. But if you don't have a lot to work with since birth, then it is unlikely that you'll get far. I think that education and will-power have more to do with a success than actual intelligence.

@SW-User Nah, no way.
