As you've grown older...

Might you find yourself a bit disappointed that quicksand is not really a threat?

what do you mean?

@newbie Quicksand doesn't 'suck' you down. However there are dangers associated with it, predominantly exposure and in some areas of the world, drowning due to tides.

@newbie When you were little...You never worried about quicksand?

@SW-User well i've seen demonstrations where one would sink in deep and fast without any chance of getting out again without help. dying from being stuck in quicksand one way or the other seems to be dangerous - if mortal danger qualifies and as dangerous??

@newbie As Miss @Pambi is probably referring to, there was a melodrama associated with quicksand back in the day, that it was this 'mystical' thing that grabbed you and sucked you down. Once you touched it, it was like you were stuck.

The reality is a bit different - and like you've seen in demonstrations, the problem is people panicking - but with some patience and some work, even people who are alone can get out, usually. But the whole 'alive and sucking' thing is a myth.

@Pambi of course and i still do - i've seen what it can do!

@SW-User i guess panic is a great danger multiplier - still it seems pretty dangerous to me.

@newbie I agree, it can be, but not to the degree as portrayed in Hollywood over the years.

@SW-User in any case i guess it's never a real threat for those living in cities where all the ground is paved ;-)

@newbie True that. 😊 Nature is scary! Keep it outdoors. 😜
