The Fine Arts or philosophy offer many opportunities for noncontroversial discussion. I always loved to discuss the relationship of existentialism and how many Artists used its concepts for their works.

I have friends that committed to that life.
One of my dearest friends, an Art teacher in HS that passed a few years ago, led me in understanding the basis of "modern" art. For me, Art contains much meaning in its communication even though Picasso personally opposed that presumption. He asserted that Art was only visually based. However Dada, some Impressionism i.e. Van Gogh and surrealism are very pregnant with meaning. It was curious that he couldn't stand Dali and insisted he was nothing more than an excellent graphic illustrator.
