@MartinTheFirst it means a dogma is stale, does not really teach you anything and keeps your mind asleep in the illusion of understanding something while doubt keeps you on your toes always discovering but never settling on anything so you are always ready to drop what you thought was true if new evidence shows you that you were wrong. so dogma gets old and empty of meaning while doubt is always new and fresh.

@reflectingmonkey I have to disagree. Doubt goes hand in hand with faith. In the Bible it always speaks of how you need to test your faith to see if it holds up. We are constantly encouraged, even within faith, to seek for the truth and never settle.

@MartinTheFirst but that would lead to requestion what is written in the bible and requestion if even it might not be in itself blasphemy for having the pretense to represent what god thinks and realise its only blind faith that can make someone cling to these notions. it is actually a paradox because the kind of doubt you are talking about is about testing your faith which means to test how unchangeable your beliefs are. science is based on perpetual doubt, belief and dogma are the complete opposite of that.

@reflectingmonkey Even if you test how unchangeable your beliefs are, you would stumble upon the answer that your beliefs are either correct or incorrect. In the name of science it does not matter on which side you stand on, you will find the answer no matter if it confirms or goes against your beliefs.

This happened when a large team of scientists were going to prove evolution with birds and plants. They were gaining huge funds for it, everyone thought that this would indeed show an observable, real time macro mutation from species to species.
However, even though they all really wanted it to prove evolution, what they ended up with was something that went against their theories and beliefs. It proved to be impossible to mutate plants into new species, and the birds did not perform.
Yet, they had to agree that this was indeed what happened.

In the same way, when we test our faith and beliefs regarding anything, we would stumble upon a life-changing answer no matter what. From there and on it's all about accepting the answer.

@MartinTheFirst well, having majored in anthropology and genetics in university I could talk for a long time about the validity of the theory of evolution but it would take too much effort. no one could objectively come to the conclusion that jesus was the son of god and that the whole concept of dying on the cross to save us from our sins makes any sense. scientists adjust their worldview to be compatible with observation, believers adjust their interpretation of facts to be compatible with their worldview. @reflectingmonkey Even if you can not directly prove the it, you can notice the existence of it from the way it impacts everything around it. This is how we knew that the boson particle existed even before being able to confirm it's existence.

We can look around ourselves and see how the religious scriptures indeed hold up in the court of nature. How it holds extreme knowledge compared to what people in the past held. How it's divine and unbreakable. Even though we can not directly prove the existence of God (which we will in the future), we can see that it is there since everything revolves around it.
