How have you dealt with childhood physical and emotional abuse?

nedkelly · 61-69, M
I am very lucky for this not to happen to me - I feel sorry for those who have suffered, sexual, physical and emotional abuse - I see many clients who have suffered

Took years and years of therapy. Still feel like I am not freed of the past.
Miram · 31-35, F
Durring, by doing my best to leave and becoming just as abusive. I didn't deal with it well.

After, by addressing it in therapy and focusing on the support I had. I left, focused on my own goals and the positive influence.

I still hear his voice every now and then, in the silence or in the voices of other men, annoying.
I didn't handle it at all.
Years of drug and alcohol abuse as self medication to numb the pain.
Now I have dragged myself out of that grey misty pit of hell but sometimes slip back in a little when something triggers a memory.
Life is much better now for me.
I can see sunshine, finally.

My whole youth was spent in Catholic schools for girls. I felt socially and intellectually abused.

My husband’s mom and dad used to fight all the time. So much so the neighbors would call the cops. They used to fight outside? My husband’s dad broke furniture and ruptured doors. My husband’s mom used to lecture and yell at him so much that it gave him a complex. She was and can still be very mean. She appears to be very sweet however. My mom had her problems and my dad was absent much of the time but I never thought I’d say I was lucky but I was. I really think I have my grandmother to thank for that because she loved my mother and I and we knew it. It was her that we looked to. @aaatheaaa
By bottling it up until it can’t be held in any longer. Although to be fair, I have had meltdowns. Jiggly puff puff!

I try not to think about it and remember that my parents have spent a lot of money and effort on me

Almost everyone has to some degree. They either just don't remember or don't want to admit it.

I was lost into my own world and I was quite dumb 😐
If no, does that make me privileged?
